Wood planks

I know, I said I'd have stuff up earlier, but I had to jump on some job applications... I've got to eat.

Putting UVs on some wood planks right now. Then texturing them. I don't sleep :)

For shame...

I meant to update this on Friday, but got caught up with some scripting work and modeling for one of my other classes. Next week I have a lot less work due, so I'll be able to update more regularly throughout the week.

Definitely getting a good update later today. Planning on getting low poly models and textures for my 2x4s done, and I may as well find decent floor/ceiling textures. Oh, and my piece of plywood for my window!

To those in my class who posted their blogs on tumblr: is it possible to comment on tumblr? I can't see any place to leave you comments or whatever...

First update: Walls

Here is some work I did, replacing my flat proxy walls with some modular walls
When I looked at these on a monitor that was not my own, I noticed that my dark wood trim is barely darker. I will have to fix that.

There are some seam issues I can see I need to address, but I was planning on using decals to add the specific detail to these walls.
Also after working on this, I realized I forgot to add a window shader to my list of assets. Windows to come later!

Concept sketches, scene blockout

So at the end of last quarter, I had drawn up a concept sketch for my senior project and came up with this.

It's set in a Resistance style post-invasion world, and the idea is that the occupant of this building is living here and standing a vigil at the window, picking off aliens. The television has been outfitted with scavenged alien technology, with power cables drawing its power supply from an alien installation outside.

It honestly came out a little lifeless, and I think part of that problem was the really generic camera angle.

So I worked on this above blockout here, just so I had some proxy props that I can move them around and play with my camera a bit...

And revised my camera, pulled it in lower to try and get a bit more drama, as well as being a bit more deliberate with my prop placement. I'm currently working off of this, building my walls and windows. They are modular, so I'm working with a generic detail and seeing what I can accomplish with decals in-engine.
